‘Crime Against Humanity’: Priyanka Gandhi

Priyanka Gandhi Condemns Bangladesh Lynching, Calls It ‘Crime Against Humanity’

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has denounced the brutal lynching of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh, describing the incident as a “crime against humanity.” She urged the Indian government to raise the issue of minority safety with Dhaka, stressing that violence based on religion or identity must never be tolerated.
The incident occurred in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, where 25-year-old Dipu Chandra Das was attacked by a mob over alleged blasphemy. His body was later set on fire, sparking outrage across South Asia. Bangladesh’s interim government condemned the act and promised strict action against those responsible.
Priyanka Gandhi, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), expressed alarm over the killing, stating: “Discrimination, violence, and murder based on religion, caste, or identity is a crime against humanity. The Government of India must take cognizance of the rising violence against Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist minorities in Bangladesh and firmly raise the issue with Dhaka.”

Her remarks come amid growing concerns about the safety of minorities in Bangladesh, where Hindu temples and homes have been targeted during political unrest. Human rights groups have documented repeated cases of forced displacement and attacks on minority communities.

Priyanka Gandhi’s statement highlights the Congress party’s focus on human rights and minority protection, contrasting with the government’s diplomatic approach. Analysts suggest her intervention could add pressure on New Delhi to formally address the issue with Bangladesh.

As investigations continue in Bangladesh, Priyanka Gandhi’s strong condemnation has brought renewed attention to the plight of minorities in South Asia, raising questions about regional cooperation and India’s role in safeguarding vulnerable communities.
